Sample Letter to Provider
It is important to open the lines of communication with the provider when you identify a promising opportunity. This is a sample follow-up letter or CV/resume cover letter that you can send to help you learn more about the available practice opportunity.
Dear _____________:
I recently learned about your practice opportunity through Optometry's Career Center. I am interested in learning more about your practice, and I would like to tell you about my background and how my skills and experience can benefit your practice [modify according to the type of opportunity you are seeking].
- Include a short, personal description. Following are a few suggestions:
- year of graduation and school attended
- qualifications and clinical experience/externships
- class standing or GPA (if in top percentage of class)
- practice experience
- Discuss your desired practice characteristics:
- mode of practice (private practice, employment, purchase, etc.)
- opportunity to practice in your desired specialties
- geographical area
- What can you offer to enhance the practice? Be sure to emphasize any special skills you have, especially those that match the needs the provider lists on the questionnaire.
- List the date you are available to work and desired work schedule.
- Include your contact information.
- Attach a current CV/resume, if you desire.
Additional Tips:
Proof your letter carefully for grammar, typos, etc. Try to keep the letter to one page and, especially if you are seeking employment or an interview, include only the most important and impressive background information that you feel will make you stand out. |
